Functions of the Left & Right Lobes of the Human Brain

So can you guess the time without having a clock around? If the answer is yes then you are using the right side of your brain. Interesting? Keep reading then. Your brain is a jelly like mass weighing no more than 3 pounds and having a complex network of more than 100 billion neurons. Your processor is divided into complete two hemispheres called right and left. A thick band of nerve twines which connects these two halves is called the corpus callosum. Interestingly, the right side controls the left side and vice versa.

How to determine that a person is a left or right brain? The answer is hidden in the characteristics one exhibits. If you are an impulsive buyer, don’t care much about what the facts say, you aren’t comfortable with MCQs, find pictorial representation of things easier to understand, are good at art and music, use mnemonics and songs to memorize things, and can’t focus long on one thing then you surely are a right brain. If not, here goes the second recipe. Do you score 100% marks in mathematics, remember each of your friend’s birthday accurately, make a list of “to-do” everyday, never accompany your friends on their adventure trip to rock-climbing rather advise them to beware of the dangers involved in it? Then you are a left brain.

So what exactly is the difference between the information processing mechanisms of the two halves? Right half deals with visual information and identifies group of information. However, the left half captures and interprets data analytically; in fact it analyzes right half’s information. For instance, the right brain only remembers “it’s a car,” the left on the other hand remembers “its James’s car”

People, who have their right part injured, suffer from “denial syndrome” saying that there is nothing wrong” with them. Right side deals with vision, so loss of vision may not be identified by the brain. It will not realize that something is missing and it has failed to gather any important information. There is too much importance of the proper functioning of the right half. The left half on the other hand is responsible for processing the information given from the right part and performs language processing as well. If this part is injured, one can identify that something is not correct, however, will find him/herself incapable to solve complex activities. Such people tend to be more depressed, have language fluency issues and have poor organization ability.

Why Study Human Anatomy?

Anatomy, a study of the structure of living organism, is also applicable to human body. In the event of human anatomy it is a study of the cells, tissues and the organic systems. As human body is composed of various different systems, it’s also important to understand their working. As all the organisms in a human body are interconnected the human anatomy as a whole needs to be studied to understand their working. Thus, human anatomy is associated with physiology. Studying human anatomy will assist the individual not only in carrying out a profound examination of the subject matter but will also provide a strong basis for care and treatment of the individual.

Although studying human anatomy is not an easy task but once done it proves to be quiet beneficial especially for the people providing counseling. In case of a counselor, once the therapist has developed knowledge about the human body and the way it responds to the different categories of tonic, he will be able to develop an accurate observation about the client. As the counselor is aware of the functioning of the body of the client he’ll be able to understand the psychological firmness, effect of taking away of any of a drug on his organic system and desire to acquire a particular thing.

The payback of this study is not limited to any one field. Similarly, it also proves to be of importance to medical secretaries. A medical secretary who has studied this is considered as having more expertise than anyone else in the field. On the other hand, development of medical reports using medical jargons is done without any glitches. Apart from the benefits occurring in the professional field this course also helps human beings at a personal level. If the person knows the body well, he will be in a situation to take protective measures against any kind of infection that he might see as occurring. Reason being that as the individual is knowledgeable about the symptoms of initiation of illness that he will be facing.

For all the people related to the medical filed this study will prove to benefit them to progress in their careers but for people not related to this sector this study will be beneficial for their health and will add to their knowledge.

Taking Care of Your Dental Anatomy

The structure of the human mouth and teeth is called dental anatomy. In order to maintain healthy teeth, it is essential that you acquire adequate knowledge about the structure of your teeth and mouth. It will help you take good care of your teeth. The way you present your teeth depicts your personality and hence it is important that you take care of them.

Every individual should have knowledge about basic dental care. This usual involves regular brushing with the right methods, flossing your teeth and also visiting your dentist for regular dental checkups. It is also important to eat well and take care of your teeth accordingly.

The main advantages of having essential knowledge of dental care is that it prevents tooth decay, which is one of the most common problems people face. It also helps in preventing your gum from any kinds of dental diseases. Dental care also helps save a lot of time and money as regular checkups and proper care would ensure that you don’t have to get your teeth treated for problems. These treatments are extremely expensive and also take up a lot of time. Dental care also solves hygiene problems like bad breath, yellowing of teeth and bacteria. It ensures that your overall health improves as the dental anatomy is closely related to the human system. In general, it makes it possible for your teeth to last for a very long time.

There are certain practices that everyone should learn to do in order to take adequate care of your dental anatomy. It involves brushing your teeth at least twice daily, preferably in the morning and before going to sleep at night. This helps fight tooth plaque and ensures healthy teeth, gums and the surrounding bone.

Selection of the right kind of toothpaste is also an important step. You should use toothpaste that contains fluoride. It is suggested to consult your dentist to recommend you a tooth according to the nature of your teeth. Toothpastes should be able to fight plaque, kill bad breath and whiten your teeth. Toothpastes that are approved by the American Dental Association are recommended.

One should take special care about the kind of food they eat. Extra sugary foods are harmful for teeth and should be avoided. Also, using tobacco products causes diseases to your gum and triggers oral cancer. Lastly, it is also important that you visit your dentist regularly and get your teeth examined.

Superficial Human Anatomy

The study of human anatomy is actually an analysis of the structural build up of a human being. For e.g. under this study, if you are studying about the eyes of a human being, you will have to study the components that are included in that part of a human’s body. Details about how each part is joined to each other, what the purpose of each part is and how nature has arranged each component will all be studied in detail in the study of human anatomy. In other words, human anatomy deals with any aspect that is related to how a human beings body is structured and the components that go with it which essentially means studying human structure.

There are many branches of human anatomy. Two broad aspects are Histology and Gross Anatomy. Histology concerns even the smallest detail possible in regards to human anatomy; the most microscopic of details will be considered here. On the other hands, dealing with human anatomy on a macroscopic level is known as Gross Anatomy studies.

It’s usual for people to assume that when we talk about anatomy it only refers to parts of the human body that are internal organs such as heart, brain, etc. Yes, they are. However, there is also a different aspect to human anatomy that is known as ‘superficial anatomy’.

The study of superficial anatomy, also known as surface anatomy, deals with that part of the human body that can be studied plainly by sight. These anatomical features can clearly be seen on a human body and hence do not require any dissection by students of this descriptive science. It’s these studies that have provided basis for representation of the human body in ‘classic art’ for centuries. Hence, another name coined for this study is ‘visual’ anatomy. The human body’s proportion and form along with on the surface landmarks give a visual idea about deeper structures below the skin which are hidden from the human eye. For e.g. we see the retina, eye lids, eye lashes, etc. on a human body and studying that would be superficial anatomy while the mechanism that makes the eyes work and the way they are connected to the mind are a deeper study of human anatomy.

The parts that make up a superficial human anatomy are the head and its accompanying features, the throat and its accompanying features, the external spine, the arm, the chest, the abdomen, the legs, the skin and all their accompanying features.

Components of Human Anatomy

The study of human body revolves around the study of various components the human body is composed off. When examining them, it’s also essential to understand their working. As all these parts are inter related physiology also comes into play. Human anatomy is studied with two different viewpoints, the systematic approach and the regional approach. Systematic approach considers the body as a combination of diverse components whereas the regional approach divides the human body into different sections such as upper limb, lower limb, etc.

Talking about the systematic approach, there are some systems essential in studying human anatomy include nervous system, digestive system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, endocrine system, urinary system, reproductive system and the lymphatic system. All these systems are the central for working on individuals and are also connected with each other. A problem in one system will disrupt the working of human body. For instance, an improper working or a problem in a human mind will upset the functioning of the individual. Consequently, it will also affect the other parts of the body such as digestive system.

The nervous system is the in charge for regulating all the other systems of our body and is also labelled as the most complex component present in a human body. The system maintains it control all over the body using the spinal cord to transmit its signals to other organs. Even the respiratory system is controlled by the nervous system via autonomic nerves.

Similarly, the cardiovascular system is responsible for blood, heart and blood vessels. This system supports the respiratory system by transporting oxygen to the other parts of the body. It is also responsible for allocation of elements such as sugar, hormones and so on. The musculoskeletal system, on the other hand, includes bones, tendons, muscles, etc. to support the body and guard the internal organs and permit movement. The movement of these muscles is controlled by the nervous system.

In a similar way, the other systems also support the working of the body. Hence to understand the working of the body on a whole it’s compulsory to study each and every component along with their way of functioning, importance and the effects that will take place if anyone system is faced by a disease.

How does the Human Nervous System Work?

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 14-11-2010

The job of the nervous system is to keep you informed about the happenings in the environment. The nervous system works as a response system that reacts accordingly to the changes happening around. For instance, a car is coming towards you as you are crossing the road. Your eyes have sensory cells that detect the change in environment and react. The eyes send impulses which are transported to the brain through sensory nerves. The brain then does the interpretation job and sends the response back. Impulses are then sent back along motor nerves to your leg and feet muscles which then move according to the situation.

Neurons play a great role in guiding the fundamental behavior of the nervous system. There are huge number of these minute cells, each of them having their specialized tasks. Neurons travel around the body transmitting information through an electrochemical process that develops connections between our various senses.

Memory is another important component of the brain. Everything that a person has learnt, done and seen is passed to areas of the brain known as amygdala and hippocampus and where information is stored long-term. These complex structures are also used for retrieval of information whenever triggered.

The nervous system has basic body functions that control the reactions of all the body processes of a human system. Actions like breathing, digesting and even sweating are triggered by the brain. The nervous system also has a sympathetic component that trains the body for all kinds of situations that involve stress, emotion and empathies. For instance, if you are experiencing a robbery, the brain triggers reactions such as faster heartbeats, fright and tension. The brain then sends signals to the leg and feet muscles to react accordingly.

The nervous system is essential for all your senses to work. Without your brain functioning properly, you would even find it hard to recognize your own wife or husband. You wouldn’t recognize any tastes, any touches or wouldn’t know what you are seeing.

The nervous system of the human anatomy is the most important part of the system as it helps give a meaning to everything a person does, sees, smells, eats or hears.

Why Do Humans Have an Appendix?

Posted by admin | Posted in Uncategorized | Posted on 14-11-2010

Human beings have been continuously evolving throughout history, and are still evolving to this day. There are certain parts of our bodies that are, in fact, useless to us now. Though they are present in our anatomy, due to their serving a specific purpose in our histories, body parts such as the coccyx, and body functions such as Goosebumps and panic are things that were incredibly useful for our survival in the past, but seem to have fallen into the category of useless in the modern world. One of these body parts is the ‘appendix’, which is not used any more, though is still present in our physical anatomy.

During the historical age of the cavemen when human beings had to function as hunter gatherers and basically scrounge for food and eat what they could find in the wild, people ended up eating a very diverse range of different vegetation which we no longer eat today. The appendix would have been a larger organ about the sixth of the stomach. The years since then have shown a slow decline in the usage of the appendix.

As well as humans, there are other mammals that have an appendix in their anatomies, and this does not function either. There are also a few different mammals that use their appendix on a regular basis. The koala only eats vegetarian food and uses their appendix to digest the food properly.

It is clearly evident in today’s world that we have no further use for our appendix. Nowadays, they take appendix out all the time. The organ is simply extra in our systems and is not used for the digestion of any food groups. It is evident that there is no necessity for this organ as they are taken out all the time by people who are suffering from a problem with them and these people have no problems and live similar food. Our body is unlikely to phase the appendix out or get rid of it when there is no harm in its existence. Many of the features of our bodies are remnants left over from the past. There are certain situations which would have made sense in the past but are useless and often, bemusing in the modern world.
